Intergas HRE / Rapid / ECO RF fault 4

No flame signal

Gas boiler

What it means

The boiler controller has detected no flame signal during ignition attempt.

Likely causes

  1. Burner fails to ignite after multiple attempts
  2. Gas isolation valve closed, no gas at meter
  3. No or incorrect ignition gap
  4. Faulty burner
  5. Earth fault
  6. Gas supply pressure too low, faulty governor at gas meter
  7. Gas valve or ignition module not powered
  8. Boiler controller (PCB) fault
  9. Gas tap closed
  10. Air in gas pipe
  11. No ignition / worn ignition electrode
  12. No spark / faulty ignition unit on gas valve
  13. Gas/air adjustment not correctly set
  14. Fan faulty
  15. Fan dirty
  16. Gas valve faulty
  17. Gas supply pressure too high
  18. Incorrect ignition gap
  19. Weak spark
  20. A different gas type is connected to the appliance than the one it was factory-set for

Where to start

  1. Observe number of ignition attempts (up to 4) before fault mode is triggered
  2. Check gas isolation valve is open and gas is present at meter
  3. If pressure OK, check ignition gap - replace ignition pin, check ignition electrode gap

Safety: Isolate gas and power before you open the case. If you have been into the gas side, do a tightness test, and a combustion and flue check before you hand back. Gas Safe (UK) or RGI (Ireland) work only.
