Midea Heat pump fault E5

T3 outdoor unit heat exchanger bottom temperature sensor error

Heat pump

What it means

Fault relating to the T3 outdoor unit heat exchanger bottom temperature sensor.

Likely causes

  1. Sensor fault or wiring fault at CN34 port
  2. Low ambient temperature (T4<3°C) combined with low water-side temperature triggers freeze protection
  3. Water side temperature dropping below critical thresholds due to low flow, low ambient temperature, or system stoppage
  4. Water pump malfunction indicated by abnormal indicator light status
  5. Set temperature reached

Where to start

  1. Check sensor connection at CN34 port on the PCB
  2. Check T4 (ambient temperature) reading against 3°C threshold
  3. Check Min(Twout,Twin,T1) against 4°C threshold sustained for 5 seconds

Safety: Isolate the outdoor unit and any backup heater, and give the inverter capacitors time to discharge before you open the electrics. Anything on the refrigerant circuit needs F-gas certification.
