Vaillant Gas boiler fault F.25

Safety shutdown: flue gas temperature too high

Gas boiler

What it means

Safety shutdown due to flue gas temperature exceeding the allowed limit.

Likely causes

  1. Flue gas safety cut-out plug is loose/not plugged in
  2. Interruption in the wiring harness
  3. Leak in flue system
  4. Flue gas recirculation in extended flue gas installations
  5. Incorrect flue fall causing condensate to not drain back to boiler
  6. Condensate pooling in flue leading to blockage or corrosion
  7. Use of mineral-oil-based grease on flue pipe seals causing seal damage
  8. Unsuitable or insufficient combustion and room air
  9. Obstructed air supply to installation room
  10. Combustion air contaminated with sprays, solvents, chlorinated cleaning agents, paint, adhesives, ammonia compounds, dust or similar substances
  11. Chemical substances stored at installation site
  12. Combustion air routed through chimneys previously used with oil-fired boilers causing soot build-up
  13. Air/flue pipe not completely installed
  14. Front casing not installed/closed
  15. Empty condensate trap / siphon allowing flue gas into room air
  16. Damaged seals due to use of grease instead of water/soft soap during installation

Where to start

  1. Check the plug and the plug connection.
  2. Check the wiring harness.
  3. Check the flue gas installation is intact in accordance with the latest gas safe technical bulletin and installation instructions

Safety: Isolate gas and power before you open the case. If you have been into the gas side, do a tightness test, and a combustion and flue check before you hand back. Gas Safe (UK) or RGI (Ireland) work only.
