Heat pump

What it means

Water discharge from the primary circuit pressure relief valve, either continually (valve seat damage from foreign objects) or intermittently (expansion vessel charge reduced or bladder perished).

Likely causes

  1. Continual discharge: pressure relief valve may have caught foreign objects and valve seat damaged
  2. Intermittent discharge: expansion vessel charge reduced or bladder perished

Where to start

  1. Turn the handle on the pressure relief valve several turns to clear
  2. Check pressure in expansion vessel
  3. Remove the front panel (Refer to Procedure 1)

Safety: Isolate the outdoor unit and any backup heater, and give the inverter capacitors time to discharge before you open the electrics. Anything on the refrigerant circuit needs F-gas certification.
