Ideal Logic System IE fault L6

False flame lockout

Gas boiler

What it means

Boiler has detected a false flame signal condition and locked out.

Likely causes

  1. Deteriorated flame sense electrode
  2. Internal boiler wiring fault
  3. Loss of continuity in flame detection electrode connector
  4. False flame signal detected

Where to start

  1. Restart the boiler - does boiler work OK? If YES, check routing and integrity of internal boiler wiring is OK, check condition of Flame Sense Electrode and replace if deteriorated.
  2. If NO, separate the flame detection electrode in-line connector. Is there continuity between the terminal pins connected to the electrode?
  3. If YES, replace Flame Detection Electrode.

Safety: Isolate gas and power before you open the case. If you have been into the gas side, do a tightness test, and a combustion and flue check before you hand back. Gas Safe (UK) or RGI (Ireland) work only.
