Midea R32 M thermal Arctic Mono fault E5

Air side heat exchanger refrigerant outlet temperature sensor error

Heat pump

What it means

E5 indicates an air side heat exchanger refrigerant outlet temperature sensor error. M thermal Mono stops running. Error code is displayed on refrigerant system main control board for refrigerant system and user interface.

Likely causes

  1. Sensor T3 fault
  2. Sensor wiring fault
  3. Temperature sensor not connected properly or has malfunctioned
  4. Damaged refrigerant system main PCB
  5. Insufficient refrigerant caused by refrigerant leakage
  6. Low pressure side blocked by crushed or bent pipe, blocked EXV, or dirty filter
  7. Poor air side heat exchanger heat exchange in heating or DHW mode
  8. Insufficient water flow rate in cooling mode
  9. Outdoor main PCB fault (last resort)
  10. Inverter module damaged
  11. Main board fuse damaged/blown
  12. Hydronic box main PCB fault
  13. Damaged cables between hydronic box main PCB and outdoor unit main PCB
  14. Outdoor unit main PCB fault
  15. Incorrect or abnormal input power supply (N or L)

Where to start

  1. Check sensor T3 and its wiring
  2. Check if sensor connection on refrigerant system main PCB is loose and ensure it is connected properly
  3. Measure sensor resistance and compare to resistance characteristics table to determine short-circuit or failure

Safety: Isolate the outdoor unit and any backup heater, and give the inverter capacitors time to discharge before you open the electrics. Anything on the refrigerant circuit needs F-gas certification.
