Ideal Logic Heat fault L6

False flame lockout

Gas boiler

What it means

Alternating 'L' and '6' indicates a false flame lockout, where the flame detection circuit senses a flame signal when no flame should be present.

Likely causes

  1. Deteriorated flame sense electrode
  2. Poor internal boiler wiring routing or integrity
  3. Faulty flame detection electrode
  4. Loss of continuity in flame detection electrode connector

Where to start

  1. Reset the boiler and check if it works OK
  2. Check routing and integrity of internal boiler wiring
  3. Check condition of flame sense electrode, replace if deteriorated

Safety: Isolate gas and power before you open the case. If you have been into the gas side, do a tightness test, and a combustion and flue check before you hand back. Gas Safe (UK) or RGI (Ireland) work only.
