Ideal Logic Air fault 9.1.28
Number of heat pump starts exceeded
Heat pumpWhat it means
Heat pump has exceeded the permitted number of starts, typically caused by short-cycling due to pipework blockages or incorrectly sized circuits.
Likely causes
- Blockage in pipework between Indoor and Heat Pumps
- Heating and Hot Water circuits not correctly sized
- Blockage in internal pipework
- Frost accumulation on evaporator due to outdoor humidity/temperature conditions
- Electrical interference from inadequate cable separation
- Water ingress from improperly routed cables or loose cable glands
- Inadequate corrosion inhibitor dosing leading to gradual system performance deterioration
- Missing or undersized system filter allowing debris into primary circuit
- Dwelling ambient temperature at or below 8°C
- Ambient air temperature at or below 1°C
- Dwelling room temperature dropped to ≤8°C
- Refrigerant leak from circuit
Where to start
- Check for blockage in pipework between Indoor and Heat Pumps
- Check Heating and Hot Water circuits are correctly sized
- Check for blockage in internal pipework

Safety: Isolate the outdoor unit and any backup heater, and give the inverter capacitors time to discharge before you open the electrics. Anything on the refrigerant circuit needs F-gas certification.
